Although not wormhole endowed, many independent worlds exist in the buffer zones between the six major power blocs described above. These now have access to interstellar travel and the other advanced technologies, either by purchase or gift from one of the major powers. Many of the independents have recently banded together to form the League of Independent Worlds.
Most of the more powerful independents have an loose alliance. Some of the independents are stronger than individual members of the other groups. The League has only cursory ties, a joint non-aggression pact, an agreement in principal to provide mutual defence. The latter is unlikely to be much use in a full scale conflict as there has been little or no attempt to integrate the command and control, or the capabilities of the units. Joint exercises are a rarity. In economic terms, there are variety of ties between various member states but nowhere near the extent of the more organised power blocs.
There are also several worlds which do not subscribe to any of the league treaties. Most of these are very weak economically and militarily. Nevertheless these are courted by all the power blocs.
