Binary star system. It is 35.8
light-years from Sol. Its
scientific name is DM+71 482. Like many colonists living in systems with
one habitable world the inhabitants call both their system and the planet they live on Valhalla (although the correct
name for the planet is Valhalla A-2). They call themselves
Valhallans. Valhalla is a first wave colony and was colonised in
198 AI (2412 AD). They first found out about
wormhole technology when they were visited by a
starship from the
Star Kingdom of Pegasus in 211
AI (2427 AD). By 242 AI (2458 AD) they had acquired
sufficient technology to attempt to found a second wave colony
in the Easter (DM+80 238)
star system, however the colony was not a total success and many
colonists died or returned to Valhalla. Offworld investment, mainly by the
9 Star Combine, started in 274
AI (2490 AD), however newer technology led to an increase in unemployment. In 279
AI (2495 AD) an underground organisation called
Valhalla First was formed to work against foreign companies. In
281 AI (2497 AD) the
Eridani Republic and
Star Kingdom both started to made political attempts to get Valhalla
to join their power blocs. The system was soon targeted by the
Centaur Federation, who attempted to intimidate the
Valhallans with a fleet of starships, leading to the
Valhalla Crisis. During the crisis
Republic and
Star Kingdom fleets entered the Valhalla system and all three began
to make mock attacks on each other. After battle broke out between ships from the
Federation and the
Kingdom all three sides agreed to a peace agreement proposed by the
9 Star Combine and withdrew their ships. The
League of Independent Worlds was
formed the year after the crisis and made its own political overtures towards Valhalla.
Valhalla First made their first terrorist attacks in 289
AI (2505 AD) and by 296 AI (2512 AD) the Valhallan
government was unable to control their activities. In the lead up to the 297 AI (2513
AD) elections, mercenaries began to flood onto Valhalla. Later that year
Iron Fist (a conspiricy within the
Valhalla Military), backed by the
Centaur Federation, staged a military coup and seized
power. In the Valhalla Civil War that followed many
Valhalla First cells merged with the remaining loyalist forces,
and in 298 AI (2514 AD) they coordinated an attack with the
Eridani Republic and the
Star Kingdom of Pegasus which overthrew the
junta and restored the democratic government. Valhalla is a
true independent governed by an elected president advised by
an elected parliament (called the Valhalla Senate).

Scientific name for the habitable world in the Valhalla
(DM+71 482)
binary star system. "A" is the scientific
designation for a primary star (the larger star in a
binary star system) and the number "2" is the
scientific designation to show that Valhalla A-2 is the second planet orbiting the "A" star. As it is the only
habitable world in the star system the locals usually call it
Valhalla, except when discussing space travel within their system.
Valhalla A-2 has one moon (Valhalla A-2a).

Scientific name for a gas giant in the Valhalla
(DM+71 482)
binary star system. "A" is the scientific
designation for a primary star (the larger star in a
binary star system) and the number "6" is the
scientific designation to show that Valhalla A-6 is the sixth planet orbiting the "A" star. Valhalla A-6 has
three moons (Valhalla A-6a, Valhalla A-6b and Valhalla A-6c). In 238
AI (2499 AD), during the
Valhalla Crisis, a battle between
starships from the
Centaur Federation and the
Star Kingdom of Pegasus occured in the upper
atmosphere of Valhalla A-6. HMS Daring, a
Star Kingdom ship was crippled in the combat and fell under the
gravitational influence of Valhalla A-6.

Conflict between Centaur Federation and the
Eridani Republic and
Star Kingdom of Pegasus. Prior to the crisis,
both the Republic and the
Star Kingdom had been conducting diplomatic negotiations with
Valhalla in an attempt to get their government to join their respective
power blocs. The
Federation took an interest in
Valhalla and decided to use intimidation to get them to become a member.
They sent an ambassador to Valhalla to make a membership proposal to the
government, but also sent a large fleet of starships to conduct
"training manoeuvres" in the area at the same time. The Republic
and Star Kingdom both moved substantial naval forces of their own
into the area. Tension escalated and squadrons of ships began to make mock attacks on each other. The crisis peaked when
a Star Kingdom light cruiser squadron and a
Centaur Federation heavy cruiser squadron met in the
upper atmosphere of Valhalla A-6 and engaged in combat. Five
Federation ships and one
Star Kingdom ship were destroyed before the
Cenataur forces backed off. The ambassador of the
9 Star Combine managed to negotiate a peace deal in the
pause after the combat. All the power blocs agreed to withdraw their
ships from the area and use diplomatic means to court the government of
Valhalla. In response to the Valhalla Crisis a number of
independent worlds formed a new
power bloc called the
League of Independent Worlds.

Conflict on Valhalla following a military coup by elements within all
branches of the Valhalla Military calling themselves
Iron Fist. Prior to the civil war
Valhalla was in the lead up to elections and
Valhalla First had been attacking facilities of off-world
corporations and engaging in sporadic battles with the
Valhalla Military. Three days before the elections
Royal Pegasus Navy ships left Valhallan space after
recieving fake orders tasking them to deal with piracy in Pegasus space. One
day before the elections, the Eridani Ambassador on
Valhalla A-2 was ambushed and kidnapped.
Iron Fist plotters inside the
Valhallan Navy siezed control of a five of their fifteen ships,
and disabled another three. At the same time ground forces from Iron Fist
invaded the Valhallan Senate, taking control and setting up a
Military Junta. Ships from the
Centaur Federation, who were obviously involved in the
plot, arrived as soon as the Junta was set up, destroying or capturing five loyalist Valhallan ships and landing ground
troops to support the new government. The last two loyalist ships, which were out of range at the time, escaped capture
by the combined Junta/Federation fleet and went into hiding. In the
weeks that followed Valhalla First cells joined forces with the
loyalist military, in some cases combining units. The loyalist navy agreed a secret alliance with the
Eridani Republic and the
Star Kingdom of Pegasus and spent three months
planning a coordinated counter attack against the Junta. A feint by the
Eridani Republic Navy led the
Centaur ships away from Valhalla
for long enough for the Royal Pegasus Navy to approach
and land dropships full of
Royal Pegasus Marines. The marines supported the
loyalist ground troop while they recaptured the Valhallan Senate and other key positions. With the
Military Junta overthrown the legality of the
Federation occupation vanished and
Centaur ground forces decided to flee in any dropships and shuttles they
could get hold of before The Alliance had full control of the system.
Many members of Iron Fist fled at the same time, but some were unable to
get away and went into hiding instead.

Guerrilla movement on Valhalla
(DM+71 482). Valhalla First was formed to work against off-world
investment, which they blame for displacement of local business and a rise in unemployment. They turned to violence in
289 AI (2505 AD) and their attacks peaked in the summer of 296
AI (2512 AD). Early in 297 AI (2513 AD)
VF abruptly ceased all activity, but one month later launched coordinated attacks on
several off-world industrial complexes (with Trojan Megacorp
suffering most). They then raided the
Valhalla Defence Force bases tasked to defend the
off-world areas. Shortly afterwards a splinter group called the
Valhalla Independence Army split off from
Valhalla First. Two major VF bases were captured soon after the split. In the lead up
to 297 AI (2513 AD) election, Iron Fist
plotters used the threat from Valhalla First as an excuse to launch a military coup and formed the
Military Junta and invited the
Centaur Federation onto
Valhalla. In the
Valhalla Civil War that followed the coup, Valhalla First
agreed a ceasefire with the loyalist government forces, in some cases merging units with
Valhalla Defence Force or
Valhallan Militia units. In the
Alliance counter attack they also worked together with special forces from
the Royal Pegasus Marines. The ceasefire has held
since the Valhalla Civil War, with Valhalla First
representitives now negotiating for an amnesty.

Forcefield technician term for a forcefield that protects the structure
of a vehicle (and its occupants) from physical and energy weapons. Because different sized and shaped vehicles all
require the forcefield generators to be individually designed, ground
vehicles, air vehicles, shuttles and dropships are usually built to a standard design. Only very important or expensive
to replace vehicles have these devices retro-fitted.
