The artificial process of making a terrestrial planet (or an Earth sized
moon orbiting a giant planet) more
Earth-like. Planets just outside the borders of the
habitable zone may be artificially warmed or cooled. Air pressure can be raised or
lowered. Gasses in the atmosphere can be reduced or increased. Water and organic chemicals can be introduced and
artificial soil created. Terraforming is very expensive and can only change conditions to an extent. Because a large
number of worlds already have Earth-like conditions, the science
has not advanced much since it was pioneered in bio-domes on Mars.
An asteroid that shares the orbit of a planet. It can orbit ahead of, or
behind the planet, in a gravitationally stable point, a (L4 or
L5)
Lagrangian point. Trojan asteroids are one of the few things
with the word "Trojan" in the name that have nothing to do with the
planet or starsystem called Troy. They got the name because the original Trojan
asteroids (over 1600 asteroids that oscillate around the
L4 and L5 points of
Jupiter) were given the names of warriors in the
Trojan War (an ancient conflict on
Earth).

Transportation company based on Troy. It was originally a government owned
corporation set up to take commercial advantage of the
Troy Wormhole. One year after being founded they proved that the
wormhole was stable and surveyed the
Kruger (Kruger 60)
star system. The system was auctioned off and the Trojan Exploration
Corporation switched is activity to scientific study of the wormhole. In 138 AI (2354
AD) it abandoned its StarGate project and focused on its StarDrive project. The StarDrive project created its first
working starship in 148 AI (2364 AD).
The Trojan government sold the rights to the StarDrive to a newly formed
company, called StarDrive Industries. What was left of the Trojan Exploration Corporation then became a transportation
company and was privatised by the government. TEC was bought by
Trojan Stock Exchange. In 176
AI (2392 AD) it became jointly controlled by the
Trojan Territorial Navy and its
starships and crews were upgraded to military standards.

A multiplanetary investment corporation based on Troy. Trojan Megacorp was one of
the first Trojan companies to take commercial advantage of the
Trojan Exploration Corporation,
and move into off-world investment. They own over a hundred subsidiary companies, over half of which are located on
independent worlds. In 297 AI (2513 AD) their facilities on
Valhalla (DM+71 482) were
attacked by a local guerrilla movement called Valhalla First.

An ancient ten year conflict on Earth. Greek warriors besieged the city of Troy
(Latin name Ilium) for ten years. After they failed to break through the Trojan defences they pretended to retreat,
leaving a wooden horse filled with infiltrators. The (original) Trojans took this horse into their city believing it to
be a religious offering. The concealed warriors came out at night and broke open the gates from the inside, allowing the
Greek forces to enter the city and win the war. The people that colonised the
DM-39 14192star system
took the name Troy as both the name of their system and its habitable world. The
first Trojan asteroids were named after warriors in the
conflict and all asteroids in similar orbits now have that name.
Star system linked to
Kruger (Kruger 60)
by a stable wormhole. It is 12.45 light-years from
Sol. Its scientific name is
DM-39 14192. Like many colonists living in systems with one habitable
world the inhabitants call both their system and the planet they live on Troy. They call themselves
Trojans. The Achilles left
Earth in -80 AI (2136 AD) and arrived at Troy
in 119 AI (2335 AD). The
Troy Wormhole was discovered in 132
AI (2346 AD). After developing
wormhole technology and building
starships in 148 AI (2362 AD) the
Trojans, contacted local colonies and negotiated trading rights in exchange for
access to wormhole technology, and soon formed a
trading alliance with eight other colonies. In 177 AI (2391 AD), shortly after the end
of the First Interstellar War
this alliance was formalised and given the name The 9 Star Combine
(a name it has kept despite having expanded beyond the original membership). Troy is the homeworld of the
9 Star Combine. The name Troy is taken from an ancient
Earth city which was attacked by the Greeks in the
Trojan War.
(Trojan asteroids are not named after the Troy System.)
