With no population, a hostile environment and no economic resources, Earth does not seem like a the sort of place that would have any political interest, to most people. However Earth has one thing that no other planet in the galaxy has - it is where we originate from. As we are all the 'children' of Earth some groups are interested in Earth for this reason alone. Special interest groups concerned with Earth include:
Archaeologists - When our ancestors left Earth they left behind millions of everyday objects, works of art and other items that can shed light on parts of our history we have lost. A number of groups have expressed an interest in excavating on Earth.
Religious Groups - Some groups want to recover religious artefacts from Earth. Other groups see Earth as a mass grave and view anyone who wants to travel there as a desecrator.
'Back to Earthers' - People who think we should clean up Earth. Some want to recolonise the planet while others want to turn it into a wildlife sanctuary.
Scientists - A few scientists, mostly those in the terraforming and bio-engineering, want to use Earth as an experimental lab to test techniques that are awaiting approval for use on inhabited worlds.
None. No one lives on Earth or in the Solar System and it has not been claimed as territory by anyone else.
The Noans - This loose knit group has members from many worlds that have all sorts of interests in Earth and is the most famous of the Earth interest groups. They believe that Earth was not the first planet mankind lived on and wish to visit Earth to search for clues to the location of 'the Real Eden'. The Noans have frequently accused the Centaur Federation of having a 'keep off the Earth' policy. Noans have also had the occasional disagreement with inhabitants of the DM-41 1288 (Eden) System, as they insist on referring to their colonised world as 'the False Eden'.
