While the Solar System has little use as a base, its central place in colonised space does seem to give it a slight stategic advantage for the three inner power blocs.
With Sol being just 4.3 light years from Alpha Centauri, the Centaur Federation is the most agressive of these, with patrols of Sol being second only to patrols of Proxima Centauri.
The Eridani Republic and 9 Star Combine also patrol the Solar System, however they seem more concerned with ensuring the Federation is not using Sol as a base than expanding their own territories.
The only other power bloc with interests anywhere near Sol is The League of Independent Worlds, however the League only seems interested in dealing with occupied planets, and has never visited Sol.
