SummarySeptember 6: Nnadia came to Shanghai and stayed from September 6th to September 8th, 2002 to host a singing contest. She was too nice to us during the encounter. On the first day, I (Annie) came to the airport to pick her up with a few other girls. But the girls ended up coming late so I was the only person there to meet Nnadia at the airport. She was TOO BEAUTIFUL in her pure white dress and jeans. Haha, wearing both dress and trousers!!! The style was just quite casual. Nnadia greeted me cheerfully and kept saying: "Hey, Annie, you look so pretty and beautiful! What a cute girl." But I didn't reply a word and the only expression on my face was a gentle smile. We hugged tightly after that. I then handed her my presents. At the same time, I was wondering why the other girls still hadn't arrived. I remember telling Bobo (her personal assistant) and Nnadia that many other girls will also be coming. Not long after, she said she could no longer stay but told me that I may contact her sooner or later. The other fans came at last and they were pretty upset, and that's because before our trip, we thought that the only chance to meet Nnadia would be at the airport. However, we made the smartest decision that day :) We decided to travel to her hotel and waited for her in the hall. When we saw Nnadia in person this time, two of the girls cried! They were just too excited and one of them was so touched when Nnadia gave her a hug. Our kind-hearted Nn kept talking to all of us (I think maybe 8 in all) happily. Then soon again, she had to leave for Shanghai Television Station to prepare for the rehearsal of the contest. One of the staffs suggested that we could go there to watch the rehearsal. HAHAAAAA, and that step was even smarter!!! We stayed in the studio from 2 PM to 10 PM watching Nnadia in the rehearsal. You know, that was my very first visit to the newest Shanghai TV Building. It was in the centre of the city (downtown I suppose). All of us were a bit nervous since we weren't sure whether the staff there would let us in or not. Thank goodness, it was like a dream because we passed a number of checkpoints and nobody stopped us. Soon we were in the No.1 Studio, which was on the 3rd floor. We saw Nn busy going over the plot with the other two hosts from Shanghai & Canton. She was sitting in a meeting room and through the window, she waved towards us and we could tell from her expression that she was very surprised to see us. And Nnadia looked quite serious when she was doing her work. Next up, I did a wrong thing. I went outside to buy some snacks for the girls because none of us have eaten anything for lunch. Well guess what? I then missed the opportunity to see Nn when she had finished her plot and walked out of the meeting room to take photos with us. Until now, I still haven't gotten any photographs that have Nn & I together. Anyway, I carried a bag of fried chips back to the studio but no one wanted to eat now. So later in the afternoon, I gave them all to Hannah (Nnadia's other personal assistant) so that the three of them could have something to eat. We went to enjoy the rehearsal in the theatre when Nnadia walked to her rest room for further preparation. A few minutes later, the three hosts arrived. Nn looked so perfect on the stage and she kept making jokes. We couldn't help laughing, which made me almost cannot talk the next day :) Besides that, she acted not only as a host but also as a floor manger. That is, Nn was helping the floor manger with the directing work all the time. This was when I started to know what a professional artist is like. I took a lot of photographs and the spectators were free -- they could come near the stage to take pictures. We also chatted with Hannah and Bobo because they sat with us. Together, we watched the rehearsal over and over again (I could nearly recite the plot!!!). Once, we went to the make-up room where each of us luckily got a photograph of Nn from Hannah. Oh, our poor Nnadia! She was no doubt very very tired by the evening. However, Nn always smiled at us :) At 10:00 PM, everything came to an end for the day. The girls came up to Nnadia to give her their gifts and to take more photos with her. Hehe, Nnadia looked soooooooooooo happy when she saw our super gifts!!! I didn't join them with the photo taking though because I thought Nn was so tired already that I'd better stop and let her go back to her hotel as soon as possible. Then she took my hand and we walked all the way from the studio to the main hall, followed by the group of girls. Ooohhhh, that was the most exciting part of the whole day for me! During our long trip, we talked a lot and she was so warm towards us. Some of the girls traveled from other cities to Shanghai. One of them made each of us an amazing T-shirt with an elegant young lady on it (that lady is NNADIA of course!!!). The picture frames are all different. Nnadia noticed that and she loved these designs so much, so that girl promised to make her one as well. She chose the frame with blue sky and white clouds --> PURE GIRL!!! We were wearing these T-shirts the whole time there. September 7: On the second day, I disappointingly stayed home all day long. I did so only because on the first day, we were told that there wouldn't be any tickets left for the singing contest the next day. Even the staff of the Television Centre could hardly get any more. That was why someone suggested us to go and watch the rehearsal instead of the formal one on the first day. Half of us decided not to go to STV but still, four of the girls were determined to go and they were absolutely smart! Two of them came from the neighbor cities of Shanghai and their only purpose this time was to see Nnadia. I was told the last day in the hotel that their visit was successful. There was another rehearsal that afternoon and was the last one as well. They watched it without any difficulties but as soon as it was over, the staff was ready to ask them to leave the studio. The spectators and guests were going to enter the studio very soon. After that, there happened to be a great adventure :) One of the girls was so cleaver and brave; she kept saying that she was the partner of Nnadia Chan who was the host from Hong Kong, which meant she had to remain in the theatre. She was then asked by the security guard for a proving card. Of course there wasn't one and she said that she hadn't brought it with her, but she WAS NNADIA's PARTNER INDEED!!! Well guess what? The guard let her in after all. Lucky her!!! Without any tickets!!! But the other three girls failed to get in. However, one of the three also slipped into the theater when the guard didn't notice her. What an adventure! It's a pity that I haven't experienced it myself. The girls told me that Nnadia wore a red evening dress during the contest. Her hair was tied up with a black ribbon, which made her look neat and elegant. I still remember that she also wore a red dress last time in Malaysia for this same contest. During break time, they escaped from the studio to Nnadia's make-up room. Last time I didn't get the chance to enter but they did. Nnadia let them see her doing her hair and the girls told me that no doubt she is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL. Hannah served them with hamburgers and they took a lot of photos! Then after the singing contest, a crowd of people gathered around our pretty Nnadia for autographs and photographs. Certainly, the girls joined them. Up till now, I still haven't gotten a picture with Nnadia alone yet :( September 8: And then it came to the last day. Actually, we only had less than 30 minutes to spend with her on this day. Bobo invited us to their hotel and a new girl joined us at that time. When we saw Nnadia coming out from the elevator, that new girl couldn't help crying, which led to Nnadia holding her hands and hugging her tightly. Guess what she said? Nnadia said to the girl that she hadn't die and she was completely all right. The words made the girl burst into laughter. And for me, I was carrying my Sony video recorder all the time. We didn't have much time since a friend of Nnadia in Shanghai invited her to lunch. But we did spend some times together when Nnadia was busy with her autographs (the girls brought a lot of photo albums there for her to sign). She sat in the sofa and we passed her all the pictures. Of course, during that period of time, we didn't forget to chat with her from here to there. She was always so patient. Then Nnadia left when her friend came (with his family which included a baby boy) and promised us that she would come back after lunch. So we went to eat something and went back to the hotel where we met her again. Poor Nnadia, she continued her work with the autograph. I was the cameraman!!! She asked us whether we had had lunch or not. Finally, it was time to say goodbye. They had to leave for the airport or they would miss the flight. But I did notice that Nnadia was not willing to stop when Bobo urged her because it was already too late. She just kept signing and pretended as if she didn't hear what her sister had said. We were all so touched at that moment. |
